This is a set of 5 original WWII-era Imperial Japanese Army commemorative sake cups (gunpai), each decorated with gold-painted lacquer motifs. Each cup was a personal keepsake-typically gifted to soldiers upon discharge, for victory in battle, or for distinguished service. These were never mass-produced; each design reflects pride, ceremony, and personal memory. Cherry blossom and chrysanthemums: symbols of Imperial loyalty and resilience. Rising Sun and national flags: "Commemoration" of unit service.

Horse in a horseshoe: likely a cavalry (horse soldier) discharge cup. Feather with sword and bug: rare motif, possibly linked to Military Police or elite guard units. Gold calligraphy: "Victory Commemoration, " "Unit Discharge, " and soldier names such as "Ichikawa". 9-10cm wide, 3.3-4cm high.

Material: Red lacquerware with gold paint (urushi-nuri). Condition: Light wear consistent with age; no major cracks.
