This is an original WWII Japanese Army soldier's death notification, paired with a rare cloth "ikotsu-bukuro" (personal effects bag) sent to the bereaved family. The document, dated February 1945 (Showa 20), informs of the death of Sergeant Kobayashi from Niigata Prefecture, who died of typhoid fever while in a military hospital in Guangxi Province, China.

The cause of death is clearly noted as "??? The precise time is marked " (time unknown), " which was not uncommon under wartime record-keeping conditions. The accompanying cloth bag lists the family address and appears to have been used to return the soldier's remaining personal belongings.

Items like these are known as ireihin-sacred tokens sent home to the grieving families. Such pieces offer a deeply human window into the cost of war: not medals or weapons, but the silent echoes of lives lost in distant lands.

A moving and historically valuable artifact for collectors of Japanese militaria, or those studying WWII military communications and personal effects. Own a Piece of History. International Buyers - Please Note.

Thank you for your understanding.
