Steel Blade is not included. This is a complete WW2 Imperial Japanese Navy Type 97 Gunto sword mount set (koshirae) for commissioned officers.

The total length of the exterior is approximately 96.8cm (about 38 inches). All parts are original from the wartime period except for the blade, which has been replaced with a non-cutting bamboo insert. There is a marking (mei) on the tang area. The Type 97 Gunto was introduced in 1937 and used by naval officers during the Second World War. It features black lacquered scabbard, cherry blossom-themed brass fittings, and ray-skin wrapped grip with officer tassel - a formal, elegant weapon carried by elite naval officers.

After Japan's defeat in 1945, GHQ issued a strict disarmament policy. Many swords were confiscated and their blades were destroyed. This mount remains as it was, preserving the dignity and legacy of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The overall condition is excellent for its age.
