Though this was removed from a Nakajima L2D "Tabby", this was also used in the Aichi D3A "Val", Nakajima B5N "Kate", Mitsubishi Ki-21 "Sally", Nakajima Ki-49 "Helen", Mitsubishi Ki-67 "Peggy", Mitsubishi Ki-57 "Topsy", Tachikawa Ki-77, and Ki-102 "Randy". This gyroscopic compass and horizon were a large part of the autopilot system as used on many Japanese Bombers and Reconnaissance aircraft. It would allow the pilot to manually change the directional path. Made of brass, aluminum, and steel, this indicator is of mid war manufacture. Till retains 95% of their original finish, and feature a mid-war Type 4 Aluminum Data plate, clearly indicating the model, manufacture, and production number.

The knobs are stiff, so they will need to be lubricated/oiled in order to function correctly. Some slight marks, wear, and corrosion, but nothing that detracts. There is one bit that has broken off the back (see photos), but that could be repaired, if one wished (does not detract). Removed from an L2D "Tabby" aircraft by a US Veteran, he conveniently wrote "Autopilot for DC-3" on the top (the L2D was a Licensed version of the DC-3). The dial still glows when UV light is applied! Like most Japanese instruments, this gauge is VERY RARE and would be a SUPERB addition to any Japanese Instrument Collection! Most of my items are vintage, and as such are AS-IS, so you must therefore expect a degree of wear due to age and/or usage. Although my passion is the Me109, I do offer many other German Aircraft Fw190, Me262, etc. , as well as USAF and Japanese items. Occasionally I do offer many non-vintage items such as prints and art relating to the time period.
