This is a scarce late war Japanese WW2 imperial Naval officers dress dirk , dagger. An original fine example of a scarce late war , with materials used that are not the same quality that were encountered in pre-war and early war naval dirks. The material used in earlier dirks were later needed for the war effort. The dirk comprises a moulded composite'' fish skin'' grip bound with what look like wire.
The pommel has the imperial chrysanthemum , as does the scabbard, on top and bottom of the scabbard collar and finial, with red leather over wood. The blade has not been sharpened and has out of the factory minty look. Some of the gold plating on composite has come off, and one divider on the hand guard is missing easy to replace. The original peg is still in the handle, you can see the age is correct and all areas have darken on the wood and leather.
