WWII Imperial Japanese Army/Navy Tropical Jacket, Unusual Open Pockets, Poncho
Offered here is an original WWII Japanese Army or Navy coat/jacket that resembles some kind of rain coat or poncho, long, but lightweight and only has two pockets, placed low and without flaps. This has a belt with loops on the reverse of the coat, having only a small snap to fasten up front and lacking any kind of buckle. The placement of the snap leaves about 6 inches of belt loose behind it, which makes me think there should be a loop to take up the slack, but no evidence there ever was one and there is no waist adjustment on the belt, just one snap. I have not been able to find a reference for this one. The markings are not readable, but in the usual format. Both of the front pocket areas show some evidence of having a larger pocket sewn on each side at some point, the stitching marks are still there and more evident on the inside. The measurements on this are about 15 inches shoulder to shoulder seam, 20 inches shoulder seam to cuff and about 34 inches from bottom of collar to the bottom of the coat.
The material almost looks treated to repel water to me, but doesn't have a stiff feel. This could be a field made piece to serve a purpose, but the inside stamp probably wouldn't be there. In very nice condition, less a couple of small stains under one button.
