ORIGINAL RARE WWII IMPERIAL JAPANESE ARMY GENERAL'S DRESS/PARADE SWORD. SWORD IS IN EXCELLENT+++ CONDITION, A VERY NICE EXAMPLE OF A VERY RARE SWORD - IT'S A GENERAL'S SWORD!!! WIKIPEDIA IMPERIAL JAPAN HAD A TOTAL OF ONLY 257 GENERALS, WHILE THERE WERE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF LOWER-RANKED OFFICERS.
THE SWORD HAS A TORTOISE SHELL GRIP (THIS IS WHAT AUTHENTICATES IT AS A JAPANESE GENERAL'S SWORD, AS ONLY GENERALS' SWORDS WERE MADE WITH TORTOISE SHELL GRIPS, LOWER RANKING OFFICERS BUT STILL HIGH IN RANK, SUCH AS A COLONEL, WOULD HAVE A VERY SIMILAR SWORD, BUT THE GRIP WOULD BE MADE OF HORN, NOT TORTOISE SHELL, WHILE LOW-RANKING OFFICERS WOULD HAVE A MUCH PLAINER SWORD WITH A SHAGREEN COVERED GRIP). ALL THREE WIRE WRAPS ON THE GRIP ARE INTACT, AND THE CHROME-PLATED BLADE HAS A FAUX TEMPER LINE. THE METAL SCABBARD HAS ALL OF ITS NICKEL PLATING AND THERE IS ONLY ONE DENT (SEE PICTURE #5) AND A FEW VERY SMALL DINGS. TOTAL LENGTH OF THE SWORD IN THE SCABBARD IS APPROXIMATELY 36 INCHES, AND THE EXPOSED BLADE IS ALMOST 30 INCHES.
YOU WONT FIND A BETTER EXAMPLE OF THIS SWORD. SEE PICTURES FOR BEST DESCRIPTION.
