A WW2 Japanese Killed In Action (KIA) or Bereavement Badge. These were given to families who lost a loved one in, or as a result of injuries from the war.

The pin fastened medal bears a cherry blossom on the front and the reverse reads Military Bereavement Award. In addition to the badge the bereaved family received a pension and funeral expenses along with help for school tuition for school-age children. The wooden presentation box has a yellow suede interior and measures 12.3 cm tall by 6.5 cm wide and 2.1 cm deep. Both the badge and presentation box are in very good condition.
